Your Workplace Needs to Laugh More

Your Workplace Needs to Laugh More Your Workplace Needs to Laugh More
With the stress the challenges of the last two years have brought to many businesses and their employees, it's never been more important to try and bring a little levity back to the work environment. In order to try and boost employee well-being, more and more businesses are trying to be as open as possible to employees and develop a healthy culture where employees can feel comfortable sharing their own thoughts and opinions - and hopefully share a few laughs along the way.

There are many benefits of laughing that can have a positive effect on both the work environment and employee well-being.

Laughter builds trust and create new friendships among employees by establishing commonality and deomstrating that people can feel safe enough to be themselves, make a joke, and not feel afraid of judgement. People who laugh together, grow together.

Laughter has numerous health benefits, including decreases stress, reduces hostility, boosts the immune system, and improves blood pressure levels, which improves the overall health of your workforce, which has never been more important than now as we face the effects of burnout from the pandemic.

Laughter fosters creativity by stimulating different parts of the brain, providing opportunities for more open communication and thinking, increases focus, and can breathe new life into mundane tasks.

Laughter in the workplace leads to higher job satisfaction and increased productivity by improving employee moods, increasing motivation, and elevating workplace culture. in fact, an Australian industry-wide study of 2,500 employees found that 81% believe a fun working environment would make them more productive; 93% said that laughing on the job helps to reduce work-related stress.

While there are significant benefits of hybrid working on a more permanent basis, working from home means that there are fewer opportunities for employees to share those small laughs around the water cooler, or build rapport with their colleagues over time. Providing opportunties for employees to come together to work through some of the burnout of the last year, connect with each other and share a few laughs can boost productivity and improve employee satisfaction both at work and in their personal lives.
